Episode 20 Lords of Waterdeep Review

Today we review the new D&D euro board game Lords of Waterdeep by Wizards of the Coast. We have already said we love this game but check out the how to play part of the review and some more flavor comments we have about it as well.

When I get a chance I will update this post with a link to the official FAQ’s for the game which might be helpful to some out there.

Episode 19– Lords of Watergeekdom, and Gyroplay + Darwin vs Hawking in fight to the death.

Tonight we try and catch up by talking about a TON of gaming and movies.

We played D&D Euro — Lords of Waterdeep right before the show and talk about the impending play of Zong Shi right after the show.

In movie news we touch on the “John Carter” debate of if it’s a “bomb” or not.

And as usual we get on a weird tangent in which Gyroplay confesses why he wants to punch Stephen Hawking. This gets us on a long tirade of whackiness, to which I assure you a small disclaimer: We mean no offense EVER to any groups so please don’t be offended by anything we say ever. We just like to beat on each other and have fun giving each other crap.

Except maybe for Transformers, I am pretty sure Gyroplay wants to offend them all the time.

Enjoy and please keep a look out for our Guild on BGG and let us know any topics you would like covered in the future!

GeekJock to Vegas, No Episode this week…

Hey all just a quick note, there will not be an episode this week, since I will be headed to vegas for the annual Las Vegas Hockey Classic, that my team plays in every March. We were going to try and get a recording in today or yesterday but schedules just didn’t quite match up.

My appologies and I can assure you we will be back in one way or another in 2 weeks, likely with an episode nearing 2 hours as we like to do as a make up episode!

Thanks for being loyal listeners and see you in 2 weeks!

Episode 18–This podcast is colorblind friendly!

Tonight the show has Gyroplay at the helm. He manages to keep us a little more on topic as he keeps us to the three defined segments.

1st segment we talk a bit about board gaming in general. We hit on how our game collections have evolved and talk about “The colorblind meltdown” we had after recording episode 17.

Here is a link to the post on BGG which GeekJock wrote about developers taking more notice of colorblind gamers. In that thread you will also find links to a couple of the geek lists we mention on the show.

Also the store we walk about two stores we wanted to give love.

1st was out favorite FLGS in the area and online The Gamers Armory

And also please check out a cool store and blog in Indiana Game Paradise (and check out their blog and twitter too)

2nd segment we touch on some movies we watched this week, including some talk on “The Phanthom Menace” in 3D. We also talk about a bunch of non-mainstream trailers Gyroplay sent to the 3 of us to watch.

Here is the list if you want to look them up and a link on one of them.

The Sound of Noise. Very cool foreign film trailer check it out and try NOT to bop while you do so.

A couple others we mention are a bit graphic so I won’t link them but simply do a search on youtube and I am sure you can find em.

Juan of the Dead

Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter

The Raid (Quite graphic and violent)

The Trouble with Bliss

And the Video Game trailer we talked about was The Last of Us. A cool looking game with incredible production value.

In our third and quickest segment we touch on some more PC/video gaming. Dan and Red talk about where they are in SWTOR, some other MMO thoughts, and some talk about PC Gamer’s top 100 games of all time. Check it out!

As always feel free to e-mail us directly from the link at the top of our main page.

Episode 17 The Best 105 Mins in Podcasting EVER!

It might not truly be the best podcasting ever but we manage to go over Dan’s pet peeve for movie length of 90 mins.

Tonight we discuss that, along with a ton of other great things. We touch on a huge variety of topics including:

–The CES from last month in Vegas

–MMO news

–Kickstarter talk, how high can VivaJava go, and is there a different project never meant to be funded on KS right now?

–Some movies we saw this week

Aand of course we talk about our play last week of Viva Java which we did after the last recording. It’s another all over the map goodness of podcasting!

Episode 16 Viva-Kickstarter!

Episode 16 of The Geek Allstars has officially hit iTunes today,
Tonight we had two special guests on the show. First we have Chris from Dice Hate Me games. We also have a prominent local board gaming friend of the show Adam O. They join us to discuss the launching of Viva Java on Kickstarter today, as well as the state of all things Kickstarter and board games in general.
We had a blast as always with them and can’t wait to have them back.
Before the show we hadn’t had the time to get a quick play in of Viva Java but we did get a 5 player game in AFTER the show and I couldn’t say enough about how much fun this game is going to be. Five players was a great experience but I can say 100% how much I am looking forward to trying this game out with 7 or 8 for the full experience. It looks to be a great game for experienced as well as newer board gamers as the mechanics of play are simple to learn and the social aspect of it is one of the best parts. Some co-op, some screw your neighbor but plenty of strategic fun.
I urge you to get onboard this wonderfully exciting project and get yourself a copy I don’t think you can go wrong.
Thanks as always for listening and please tell a friend about the show, and about our friends of the show Dice Hate Me Games. Go there now and tell them the Geek All Stars sent you!
We look forward to your feedback and to your reviews on itunes so please head there and give us a rating!

Episode 15 The Best of 2011 will be up this week!

Well, the stars finally aligned and we have a date for our next recording. It originally was set to be recording Monday evening but a snafu with Mrs. GeekJock’s work schedule has pushed recording back to Wednesday.

So stay tuned loyal listeners, we shall be posting Wed night or early Thursday to iTunes.

It should be a good one with our best Movies/Games/Video Games/MMO’s etc all wrapped into one episode and our ranting on them as well! We prolly will be throwing in some worst lists as well.

Our sincerest apologies for the delay in recording but hopefully we will be back with our regular every other week recordings for some time now. And with any luck some more board game reviews too!

See everyone Thursday am!
